There’s always something going on in Southport and the surrounding area, and the Visit Southport site is a fantastic resource. Below we’ve listed some events you might enjoy and which are happening close to Lynwood House – as you’ll see, there’s something for everyone!
If you’re a race-goer, Southport is a great base for the world’s most iconic horse race. Just over an hour’s train journey will take you to Aintree Racecourse for this exhilarating event, and after the race you can come back to Southport for a relaxing evening – hopefully with some winnings to spend!
If Triathlon is your thing, you can sign up for the Sprint or Standard distance Triathlons, which start close to Lynwood House. The Southport event is the biggest Triathlon event in the North West and is a qualifying event for the European Championships , so even if you’re just spectating, it’s going to be a great day!
If a triathlon is a bit too much, perhaps the half marathon or 10k will be more up your street?! The Southport 10k and Half Marathon is the only running event which is given permission to close the famous Lord Street – so this is a unique opportunity to run through the heart of Southport.
A day of fun for all the family – there’s plenty to see in the sky, and plenty to do on the ground! Lynwood House is situated close to the beach making it an ideal place to stay if you’re attending the show
Southport Flower Show is the largest independent flower show in the country, attracting over 55,000 visitors over 4 days. As well as the floral displays and show gardens there is lots of entertainment for the family including celebrity guests – this year Frances Tophill of ‘Gardeners’ World’ and ‘Love your Garden’ fame will be in attendance. There’s also a food festival and shopping village. The show is held in Victoria Gardens, just a 5-minute drive from Lynwood House.
If you love a good laugh, make some room in your diary for the Southport Comedy Festival. You’ll find the shows in Victoria Park (where the flower show also takes place!) where there is a dedicated heated marquee (all seated, too).
