Attractions

There is lots to see and do in Southport. Close to both Liverpool and Manchester, Southport is a wonderful escape from city life whist still having plenty to keep individuals and families alike occupied.

Southport Pier

Built in 1860, Southport Pier is over a kilometre long, and provides some stunning views as you walk.  There is a café at the end to refresh yourself before the walk back or, if your legs have had enough, you can catch the ‘pier train’!

Southport Theatre

Make a weekend of it with a stay at Lynwood House and a show!  There are year-round shows for all tastes including comedy, opera, ballet, musicals, pantomime and much, much more.

Ocean Plaza

Great to shop or to eat, Ocean Plaza has numerous shops and restaurants to while away the time.  If you’re in the mood for a film, there is also a cinema.

Lord Street

This is a ‘must visit’ when you’re in Southport.  Take a wander along the Victorian canopied boulevard to Wayfairers Shopping Arcade, which has been open since 1898.  This beautiful building has a fabulous domed glass roof and over 30 stores to browse.   If you like antiques, make sure you head to the South end of Lord Street to The Royal Arcade and browse the many collectibles and bargain finds.

Southport Beach

Who doesn’t love the beach!?  Great fun on a sunny day with the family or enjoy a walk along one of the many trails and paths through the 22 miles of coastline.  The unique natural environment boasts many varieties of flora and fauna – it is particularly good for watching the many wading birds and gulls in the area.  If you’re keen to do a spot of birdwatching, don’t miss the RSPB Marshside Nature Reserve, just 5 minutes’ drive from Lynwood House.
